The story of Monkeyglasses
Taking responsibility for your choices has never looked better!
The building blocks for the monkeyglasses® DNA was laid in 2009, ever since our design philosophy has been “look good while doing good”. monkeyglasses® have a Nordic look, and our glasses are designed for the conscious consumers, and provides a sustainable choice for the large group of people in need of glasses and sunglasses. The monkeyglasses® team are very focused on zero waste, and most of all waste material from making the frames for the glasses, are given new life by being transformed into accessories. For some of the frames we use a SUPER SLIM material, that is only 4 mm thick and very light. This makes the glasses very comfortable for the wearer.
Monkeyglasses have designed a special biodegradable material for their collections to make the frames feel and look like wood, horn and crystal. Their unique products show consideration for both the environment and the people involved in creating them. Monkeyglasses are made of cotton acetate – a special kind of plastic that consists of approximately 95 % cotton flowers and wood, and the raw material is biodegradable. Cotton acetate is a nature-friendly material that is difficult to produce. A long series of steps are required to achieve the desired effect and most of our materials are special made for Monkeyglasses collections.
Monkeyglasses is a pioneer in designing sustainable, exclusive glasses and only 266 g of C02 is created by the activities in the process of making a pair of Monkeyglasses Keeping the carbon footprint as low as possible, is important us, as well as the working conditions during the production, since all of our glasses is handmade. Each pair of Monkeyglasses is in the hand more than 200 times, before it is ready for use.
It requires high standards to be a Monkeyglassessupplier, since all manufactures and suppliers have to comply with the UN Global Compact guidelines on corporate social responsibility.
We believe that sustainability should be for anyone, no matter budget, age or size. monkeyglasses® provides a sustainable choice for the conscious consumer, that is fashionable as well as affordable. Our glasses for children help teaching the younger generations how to be sustainable. That way, we all have a chance of being a part of the solution, rather than the problem, when it comes to building a better future for our planet and generations to come.
Save The Orangutan
Save the Orangutan works to save the endangered orangutan and its rainforest habitat. The project supports the rescue and translocation of wild orangutans whose forest habitat has been destroyed, and the rehabilitation of orphaned orangutans who — without help — would die or be sold into the illegal pet trade. monkeyglasses® sponsors the rehabilitation work, and Mai-Britt Seaton, the designer behind monkeyglasses®, have adopted Cinta the orangutan.
