A very friendly gentleman and extremely knowledgeable—you can tell right away! I brought in my sunglasses, which had been damaged by skin oils. He cleaned them as thoroughly as possible at no charge and adjusted them perfectly on the spot. He also gave me some helpful tips on how to keep my glasses looking good for longer. Top-notch service!

As a small child, I ended up at Van der Geest Optiek. After that, I went through a period without glasses, but
for a number of years now, I have been a customer at Van der Geest Optiek again. Even though I hadn't been to the store in over ten years, Roy still remembered my name. You really feel that you're not just a number walking into the store, but that they see you as a person and devote a lot of time and attention to you, listening and thinking along with you about your wishes.
My dog has destroyed my glasses several times. Roy was immediately ready to replace the arms. I always got a call as soon as my glasses were ready to be picked up. A lot of care and attention was always paid to adjusting the glasses correctly.
Recently, my old glasses broke in half at the nose bridge. Again, Roy and Jaqueline were immediately there for me. Jaqueline managed to solder my glasses back together very carefully and with great precision, something other opticians wouldn't even attempt. You can't see anything and the glasses are still very comfortable. Real craftsmanship!
Thank you both so much and I will definitely be back when it's time for new glasses!

I walked in on Saturday morning just before lunch because I wanted to make an appointment for an eye test and choose a new pair of glasses. Of course, I hoped they would have time, but I wouldn't have been surprised if I had to make an appointment. But Lianne took her time and passed another appointment on to Roy. She explained everything clearly, why she was doing certain things; I've never had such a detailed explanation about my eyes in my life. Together we picked out new glasses, and she gave me her honest opinion and really helped me choose. Then I went to Roy for an explanation about the lenses I wanted (and needed, because Lianne subtly told me that my eyes are also getting older and that this is noticeable), with coffee on the side. This was necessary, because that was also very detailed. And everything was so polite and neat! Even though I showed up in my sneakers and Adidas jacket, and it's a really nice, chic store. I've been looked down on in chic stores for less. Other customers who came in were greeted like family if they were known. So, after an hour and a half, I walked out completely happy. I'll be picking up my new glasses soon. This is a really great store.

I walked into the store with no intention of buying glasses. I was helped in a very friendly manner, I was allowed to look around and was asked if I was looking for anything in particular. I said no, I just liked the large glasses. Then I fell in love with a pair of glasses and was helped in a friendly manner, with no pressure to buy anything, even though I liked the large glasses. Later, I returned to have my glasses adjusted because they were slipping off my nose a little, and the staff really strive to make sure you are happy with your glasses and that you don't leave if you are not satisfied. A very pleasant experience!

Fantastic service! I had received a pair of sunglasses as a gift, but they were much too wide and didn't fit properly. I called a number of opticians to have them narrowed, but nowhere would do it. However, Van der Geest Optiek was able to help! I was invited to come in, and after a brief inspection of the glasses, I was immediately assisted by a very friendly and knowledgeable optician, and I left with a pair of glasses that fit perfectly. Not only did the optician perfectly repair the bridge from an extremely difficult twisted bend, he also didn't charge us for it! Visiting this store was my first time getting new glasses in the Netherlands. They conducted the examination professionally, with care and recommendations, and later helped me choose the perfect glasses.
I really enjoyed the experience, and after two weeks, I received my new glasses, which I really like!
Although I don't speak much Dutch yet, they were kind enough to speak English and identify any miscommunication due to the language barrier.

I wanted varifocal glasses because I was tired of switching between two pairs. I bought varifocal glasses from a cheap optician, but they gave me headaches and made me dizzy. I was told that I was probably one of those people who can't tolerate varifocals and that I should just get two pairs of glasses. I almost believed it, but decided to visit Van der Geest Optiek just to be sure.
Fortunately, Lian and Roy from Van der Geest Optiek convinced me that it was possible to buy varifocal glasses that wouldn't give me headaches or make me dizzy. They promised to find a solution if I had any problems with the glasses. But luckily, that wasn't necessary.
After a careful and extensive eye test, supported by modern equipment, I now enjoy my varifocal glasses. It only took me a few hours to get used to the glasses, and now I don't want to be without them! I had never had an eye test like the one at Van der Geest Optiek at other opticians, such as the national chains.

My glasses were completely bent out of shape after a fall and no longer fit properly. I had moved from the Veluwe to Haarlem and was therefore no longer a customer of Van der Geest. I had a pair of sunglasses that needed the lenses from another identical pair of sunglasses to be fitted (the frame of the old glasses was broken). Of course, I know that it is common for people to speak English in the Netherlands, but from my personal experience, not everyone is friendly about it. So I appreciate them for this and I can safely say that this is an expat-friendly place.
Secondly, I would like to say that the vision test done by Lian in their store was very specific and detailed. I really felt that they cared. Lian kept asking me several times what I saw and what I read, and she was patient with me and kept trying until I had a confident, solid answer.
I gave them an old pair of glasses of mine and they changed the lenses to suit my new vision. I picked them up today and I absolutely love them, especially because the lenses weren't as thick as the previous ones I got in the US a few years ago.
Incredible experience, this will always be my go-to store from now on, even if I move away from Haarlem, I would come here.

I had an accident with my glasses and broke the right arm. The professionals at Van der Geest tried everything to repair my Silhouette glasses, even taking apart a pair of glasses from the store from a similar brand. Unfortunately, they didn't fit without paying a penny. We left the store and went to another optician. Excellent service.

We have been visiting Van der Geest Optiek for a number of years now. That means, among other things, that we always walk in with a smile on our faces. Our experiences have been more than excellent. The eye tests performed by Lian are of high quality. Roy knows a lot about lenses and frames and provides expert assistance in this area.
Recently, my wife had an unfortunate fall, which rendered her glasses unusable and in need of replacement. After the eye test and glasses fitting, my wife (and I) left the store with big smiles on our faces.

We have been customers of Vander Geest for several generations, so when my father needed treatment, the choice was easy, even though we no longer live in Haarlem. We were immediately recognized and old stories came flooding back; it was such a warm welcome. Thanks to their expertise, cataracts were diagnosed and they also helped with the report to the family doctor and provided temporary glasses until my father had his operation. We will definitely go back if we ever need reading glasses.

Experienced optician with great service! My glasses were broken, the nose piece had broken off, but they were professionally soldered back on and at the same time the earpieces were replaced (without me even asking), even though the glasses had been out of the collection for a while. TOP.

Forget Hans Anders, Pearle, especially Specsavers, and other (larger) chains. Here, customer service, expertise, and dedication are key. They take the time for you, ask the right questions, and ultimately come up with a top solution.

Really nice people who take the time to find what suits you best. When I return weeks later, they still remember exactly what we talked about, from work to hobbies to vacation plans. Questions, comments, and/or complaints about the glasses I purchased are taken seriously and addressed where necessary. I am very happy to have found this optician!
The frames are a bit more expensive than at the average chain store (the lenses are fairly similar), but in my opinion, it's definitely worth it, especially given my fairly significant vision impairment. The last time I went to a chain store, I didn't feel like the eye test was done very well, but at Van der Geest, both the test and the frame selection were professional and personal. In short, highly recommended!
