Personalized advice on contact lenses in Haarlem
Our team has been fitting contact lenses in Haarlem for over forty years. That’s why we don’t just look at your prescription. We also take into account your eyes and how and when you want to wear your lenses. After all, someone who only plays sports on the weekends has different needs than someone who wears lenses every day at the office.
At our store in Haarlem, we carry contact lenses from major brands such as Alcon, Johnson & Johnson Vision (Acuvue), CooperVision, and Bausch + Lomb. This way, we find the lens that’s right for you, rather than the other way around. Most customers choose one of these three types:
- Daily disposable contact lenses: a new pair every day, so you don't have to clean or store anything. Convenient if you wear contacts only occasionally, but also great for everyday use.
- Monthly contact lenses: You wear the same pair for a month and store them in contact lens solution overnight. This is a cost-effective option if you wear your lenses (almost) every day.
- Toric lenses: Do you have astigmatism? A toric lens stays in the correct position on your eye, so you can still see clearly.
Do you have another request? Feel free to ask, and we’ll work with you to see what’s possible. And if you’re not sure whether contact lenses are right for you, we’ll give you our honest opinion. Sometimes, glasses really are the better choice.
Here's how a lens fitting works
A good lens starts with an accurate measurement. That’s why we first perform an eye exam at our store in Haarlem, so we know exactly what prescription your contact lenses need. Do you already wear contacts? If so, wear your glasses instead of your contacts for 12 hours before your appointment. Also, bring your contact lens prescription or a box of your current contacts with you. You can find more tips under “Preparing for an Eye Exam and Contact Lens Appointment.”
Based on the measurement, we’ll order trial lenses that fit your eyes. As soon as they arrive, we’ll contact you to schedule a fitting. We’ll then show you how to insert, remove, and care for the lenses. After that, you’ll practice on your own until you get the hang of it.
After that, you’ll wear the trial lenses for a while as part of your daily routine. After 1 to 2 weeks, we’ll check together how they fit and how well you can see. If they’re not quite right yet, we’ll try a different pair of trial lenses—up to a maximum of three pairs. So, plan on at least two weeks from your first appointment until you get your permanent lenses. If we need to try multiple pairs of trial lenses, it will take a few weeks longer.
Eye Exams and Lens Reorders in Haarlem
Even if your contact lenses fit perfectly, it’s a good idea to have them checked every six months. During the checkup, we’ll assess your prescription, how the lens fits on your eye, and how your eyes are responding to it. This helps ensure that wearing contact lenses remains a comfortable experience. The consumer affairs program “Kassa” also outlined why proper care and regular checkups are so important.
Do you buy your contact lenses from us? If so, your checkups are free. Would you like to switch to a different type of lens? That would require a new fitting. There may be a cost associated with this, but we’ll always discuss it with you beforehand. Is it time for your next checkup? We’ll automatically send you a reminder.
Are your contact lenses running low? You can reorder them in whatever way is most convenient for you. You can call us at 023 5254 131, email us at info@vandergeestoptiek.com, or stop by our store in Haarlem. Then you can pick up your contact lenses, or we’ll ship them to you. Home delivery costs €5.45 for a letterbox package and €7.45 for a standard package. We always discuss these costs with you in advance. You can find a complete list of all rates on our rates page.
In the store, you'll also find contact lens solution, lens cases, and moisturizing eye drops. Not every solution is suitable for every type of lens. That's why we're happy to help you find the one that works best with your contact lenses.
Frequently Asked Questions About Contact Lenses
Most people do. Whether contact lenses are right for you depends on your prescription, your eyes, and how often you wear them. If glasses are the better choice after all, we'll be honest about it.
Plan on at least two weeks. First, we’ll order trial lenses, then you’ll receive instructions on how to use them, and after 1 to 2 weeks, you’ll have a follow-up appointment. If you need multiple pairs of trial lenses, it will take a few weeks longer.
Of course. Please bring your lens prescription or a box of your current lenses. Would you like to start over because your lenses aren't comfortable? If so, you can do that with a fitting without lens instructions.
Every six months, even if everything feels fine. If you buy your contact lenses from us, the checkups are free, and we'll send you a reminder.
A contact lens fitting with instruction costs €85. Do you already wear contact lenses or have you worn them before? If so, you can opt for the fitting without instruction for €65. This is useful, for example, if you want to start over because your current lenses aren’t comfortable. For multifocal lenses, the fee is €125, including instruction. In all cases, the price includes the eye exam, up to three pairs of trial lenses with the corresponding follow-up checks, and a small bottle of lens solution. You’ll pay separately for the lenses you end up wearing.
